The Ford Taunus 17M is a family size sedan / intermediate sedan that was produced by Ford Germany between August 1957 and August 1960.
The name Taunus 17M was also applied to future models, so the car was generally retrospectively identified as the Ford Taunus P2. Because of its exceptionally flamboyant style the first 17M also acquired various nicknames including "Barocktaunus". In a three year production cycle 239 978 Taunus P2s were manufactured.

The word quattro is derived from the Italian word for "four." The name was also used by Audi to refer to the quattro four-wheel drive system, or a four-wheel drive version of an Audi model. The Audi Quattro was the first rally car to benefit from the rules which allowed the use of four-wheel drive.
